In my last home I was OBSESSED with summer coastal home decor. Essentially I had a big blue house…. every single room was either a light blue or spa blue… ALL THE BLUES. The OGs (Original gangsters) who have been following me since my “Wicks Nest” days may remember my previous tranquil home. Don’t give me a hard time… it was 2007 okay! ;)
I still happen to love coastal blues.. but now I love using them as accents more than anything. When I first moved into my new home I knew I had to have a white backdrop. I needed a clean canvas so to speak. White walls would allow my accent colors to stand out without dominating. If you look back at my last home you can see why I felt so strongly about going with a white canvas for the walls in the new home.. My last home had color everywhere! One of the reasons why I love coastal hues is that they are simply relaxing and calming. With an upcoming visit from my sister this week I felt inspired to introduce some new coastal decor pieces from Walmart Home to my guest bedroom to help welcome her. My sister happens to love everything coastal with blue being her favorite color. Her house is filled with blue and I love it! This year I’ve been finding so many new home decor items at Walmart that I’ve been loving that I wanted to look there for a few new pieces. Walmart is not only affordable but budget friendly which is so important to someone like me who’s always switching things up. The styles and quality have been just as great… For example the new marble lamps that I included this spring to my Master Bedroom are still going strong! Click here to read that post.
Keeping my budget in mind I was able to find the cutest little blue ruffle duvet set for $40 and knew I had to have it! The 3 piece soft mint duvet set is soft in tone, feminine and light. I loved it. The easiest way to change any bedroom without making a major commitment is to switch out the bedding. I’m always looking for seasonal bedding for that very reason. I’ve also always wanted to introduce a ruffle set to this space and the $39 bed set allows me the opportunity to do so without breaking the bank. The duvet set comes in 2 sizes: queen & king. It also has a floral pattern on the reverse side – making it versatile! Click here to shop the bedding.
To further accessorize my bedroom with the summer by the lake or coastal beachy vibe – I decided to include a woven texture via jute rug. I’ve always wanted to introduce a jute rug to a bedroom and this Safavieh jute rug was just perfect. The light ivory tone mixed with the natural texture set the mood. It also comes in 4 color options & a multitude of sizes. I snagged the 8×10 in the Ivory for $227.. what a steal! I’m thinking of getting another for my family room. Click here to shop the rug.
When working with a bedroom it doesn’t take a ton to give a room an entirely different look and feel. Sometimes all it takes is just a couple of staple pieces. Especially when introducing textures and a color like blue/mint. I love how my guest bedroom has turned out and know that my sister will appreciate the changes as well.
I’ve rounded up more of my favorite coastal home decor pieces that you can use anywhere in your home below.. all are affordable & adorable!
Do you own any summer coastal home decor pieces? Is there anything from this collection that speaks to you? Let me know in the comments below!
