Emma’s Health Journey Progress & Weight Update

Emma's Health Journey Progress & Weight Update

First of all – I just want to say a huge THANK YOU to everyone who wrote me a sweet comment supporting me or giving me advice on my last post. There were so many that I couldn’t answer all back, but I appreciate each one so much.  (Click here to read the other post first, it’s important!) It was really hard to open up like that – but I felt it necessary for my overall growth and health journey.

If you’d like to follow along my journey (daily “what I’m eating” stories, grocery hauls, exercise information, selfies, progress, and more.. follow me on Instagram. Click here to follow me.)

Obviously you guys know about my background – how over the last 5 years, I’ve steadily continued to gain weight until I’ve plopped here: overweight & unhappy.

It was almost like an vicious circle of hate on myself – I wasn’t happy with my weight, yet I was too insecure/lazy to go to the gym, which would in turn make me want to eat unhealthy to hide my feelings.

Update

It’s been 3 weeks since I decided I wanted to be healthier. When I first announced my goals here, I really wanted to make it known that I don’t want to “fail” this time. When I say fail, I mean just giving up a week into it just eating everything in sight and deciding that I don’t want to lose weight.

To my surprise – I didn’t do that this time around. I actually have been amazingly healthy.. and completely changed what I was eating, from all fast food to all home cooked, healthy meals. Everyone in my life is so amazed – I have been completely devoted to eating healthy. 3 times a day, cooking my own meals or when I’m occasionally at my parent’s house for dinner: my dad will cook for me.

I didn’t originally weigh myself this time around because I didn’t want to discourage myself at all. And I didn’t want to go paleo, or keto, or anything like that because I want to be able to eat what I want – for now. I will be weighing myself in the next week and will update all of you on how that is going and will do weekly-2x a month weight-in’s.

It’s been so fun because I’m learning that I really like to cook! I haven’t tried to cook anything difficult yet – but making things like chicken and veggies and more has been really fun. My Nana bought me a new cookbook from  “What’s Gaby Cooking (One of my favorite foodie bloggers!) and I can’t wait to try out new recipes from it. Click here for the cookbook.

Future

I know this update wasn’t the most exciting – but I just wanted to give you all a little picture of how everything is going. In the next week I’m going to do a “grocery haul” on the blog and we’ll show you everything healthy I’m buying. I’m also going to try a recipe from the new cookbook that I just got, and we’re going to throw that up on the blog as well – so stay tuned. :)

And if you’re following my journey and am interested in doing this yourself.. YOU can do this. Honestly, if I can do this – so can you. Just keep pushing and hold yourself accountable.

xo,
Emma

  1. I am on a weight loss journey as well. I have lost 43 lbs so far. My nutritionist has me eating 60 to 80 grams of protein per day 64 oz of water, lots of lean meats, dont drink calories… check for items with 10g or less sugar and exercise!! If I can do it, you can do it!!!! It’s all about a lifestyle change , and you have a great attitude!! Best of luck.

  2. Hey Emma, so happy to hear its going so well! I’m in the same boat as you right now, I’m 23 and after many “fails,” I seriously committed to changing my lifestyle and eating habits to be healthier in January. Sounds like you’re having a wayy easier time than I did at first haha. I just wanted to share a few things I’ve learned so far incase the challenges that arose for me do for you at some point. You’re doing so amazing already so props to you but if it starts getting tough at times, don’t give up! There have been times where I’ve skipped a whole two weeks of exercise or had a really bad day food wise, or even an overall week where I just ate a bunch of junk and felt like I was spiraling back into unhealthy habits. It feels really hard in those moments and according to my nutritionist really everyone on a weight loss journey is bound to hit roadblocks like that at some point. You just gotta push through and view each meal as a new chance to make a good decision. Sometimes motivation can waver too and for me the best motivation has been actually seeing and feeling how my body changes over the weeks and months because of the good decisions I’ve made. So if your motivation ever falters just stick with it! You’re bound to see even more positive changes in how you look and feel the more you keep at it, it almost becomes addicting! And one last thing (and a big reason many people including myself in the past have failed) – don’t be afraid to treat yourself occasionally! Its just not sustainable or fun honestly to eat 100% healthy 100% of the time or to view all the yummy food you’ve loved for years as evil and not allowed. I’ve learned that you can still eat pizza and ice cream, but maybe not 4 slices in one shot and maybe a small cup of ice cream instead of a large lol. An unhealthy meal/treat or two a week really makes no difference in an otherwise heathy diet except for that it keeps you sane haha. But yeah, just my two cents. Huge congratulations to you on taking this journey, you’re killing it already! Keep going girl, you got this :)
