Bringing Texture to the Kitchen with Rattan Stools

Bringing Texture to the Kitchen with Rattan Stools - Obsessed with my new woven stools! I sourced all of my favorite rattan and woven decor pieces too. | Kristy Wicks

Lately I’ve been craving a little warmth & texture in my kitchen. This year, woven rattan designs have been making a comeback in a big way in the home decor and design world. Whether it’s in the form of a fruit bowl, baskets hanging on the walls, or even kitchen stools.. it seems as if rattan is becoming a classic staple.

I love this because when I was growing up rattan was used mostly during the summertime. With the introduction of more and more wood tones to the all-white kitchen trend – I’m feeling my space needs a little something more.

Some of you may remember I purchased a set of white stools a couple of years ago and while I loved them, I felt my kitchen needs a little more color, design and elegant flair. While I loved the stools I had, they were all white and a little more modern in style. Change is good as they say and I was ready!

Recently, Serena & Lily came out with a few new stool styles in woven materials that I have been loving… The second I laid eyes on the Avalon swivel stool I was obsessed. It has a curved criss-cross woven back and an open airy feel. The stool also swivels which is so convenient when grouped at an island. The color and tone is very light – they blend with my floors! It’s a win win..

The style encompasses everything that I need in a piece of furniture. A touch of trendiness mixed with a classic style and design.

Many of my friends own the Riveria style stools from Serena and Lily, and while I looked long & hard at them.. I felt like I needed something a little different. SO happy I waited because I feel the Avalon stool fits in perfectly with my space! Click here to shop my new bar stools.

Below I’ve sourced several different standout woven & rattan home decor pieces that I’m currently loving. So many beautiful pieces out there!

What do you think of my new woven rattan stools? Is the woven trend here to stay? I truly hope so!

  2. Kristy! I just got these gorgeous stools for my house and I’m really excited because they’re absolutely stunning. I’m not gonna lie I’m a little nervous because when you sit on them the rattan seems so thin I’m afraid they’re gonna break. How long have you had yours? And how have they held up since? How often do they get used? Also they make a super loud crunch when you sit down (which is where part of my nervousness comes from)… But is that just the way the rattan sounds??? definitely looking to actually talk to someone who has them as I just invested a fortune on them, Haha. Thanks so much and advance and I look forward to hearing your true, honest opinion.

    1. Hi Rachel! We’ve really loved these stools and have been using them nonstop for over a year. I have to say that the seat is beginning to wear down a bit so I’m not sure how long they will last. :/ This has just been something we’ve begun to notice this week.. I know that probably doesn’t help you much but I want to be honest. The sound goes away once they’re worn in and everyone loves them. Hope that helps! xo
