Casual California-Style Patio – New Outdoor Furniture

Welcome to my new patio space everyone! For those of you visiting from Instagram, you’re more than l likely familiar with this view… Jeff and I have been spending a ton of time entertaining, working, and relaxing in this new section of our backyard. It’s a nice retreat from the sunny side of the garden during the hot afternoons and it’s the first spot that our friends walk into from the front gate.

This outdoor room has been such an exciting project to work on this spring. I’ve been sharing most everything in my IG stories but for those who haven’t been following along, let me bring you up to speed. Last year was our first summer sitting outside after a complete front and back yard renovation. I originally purchased a smaller furniture set for this side yard from RH but quickly realized we needed more seating. We are constantly entertaining and have friends and family over often. I decided to look for larger pieces that will utilize every inch of this section… something that can seat more than just 4 people.

When selecting new furniture, comfort was key. The furniture we previously had, although really nice.. wasn’t deep enough for tall men nor large enough to seat more than 4. Definitely a problem when you love to entertain!

After looking around I fell in love with this teak furniture set in Frontgate’s spring catalog and was THRILLED when I was able to snag it! The Cassara Collection is made of warm teak wood – something I’ve always wanted to introduce to my outdoor spaces. I love the feel of wood vs. metal and the color will fade to a soft weathered gray. Perfect!

When I found that the collection also included large rocking chairs, I was overjoyed! How adorable! Who doesn’t love a chic rocking chair? Everyone who visits always fights for the rockers. The large sofa anchors the seating area and provides that extra seat we were looking for. With all the upholstered pieces, I chose the Rumor Snow Performance Fabric because I loved the bright white thick texture. The color allows me to introduce any pillows and rug which is important to someone like me who likes switching things up. Also important, this furniture will sit outside year round so I wanted to make sure that the fabric could handle all elements, people and Maggie.

To add a little curved flair to the seating, I chose the Sombra coffee table along with the Ensoleille side table. Both pieces are light & bright yet slightly modern in look and style. I love the way they pull the space together and are large enough to be useful. Because this spot sits next to my round dining table, I really wanted my coffee table to have a more unique shape – the soft scallop edges work perfectly.

TIPS:

– To protect your outdoor furniture fabric a bit more, I like to spray everything with 303 Fabric Guard Upholstery Protector. It’s similar to Scotchguard but a little stronger… boaters use it for the fabric on their boats constantly!

– Make sure to buy furniture covers whenever possible to protect your furniture from the rain and snow during the wintertime. If a cover can’t be purchased with the set you buy then you may want to look at places like Target, Pottery Barn, Frontgate, and Restoration Hardware for covers that will fit. I always recommend taking measurements of your furniture and find stylish covers that you like. I have 2 sets from different places.

To pull the space together a bit more I added a large round jute rug and a few other home decor pieces. I’m always trying to make each outdoor living area look as cozy and beautiful as I do the interior of my home. :) Right now this is a spot we love to gravitate toward every afternoon and we’re thrilled with it.

If you’re looking for some new pieces to add to your outdoor spaces then I highly recommend taking a look at Frontgate’s furniture. I love their selections and sales.. especially during this time of summer. Right now they are having a huge sale with up to 50% off site-wide, including outdoor furniture and living.. So great and definitely worth taking a look. Click here to shop the sale.

Kristy

  3. Love the accessories on the round center table. Where did you purchase the wicker platter that the candles and pumpkins are sitting in?

  4. i love your style and especially your coffee table. Do you think the coffee table would look good inside or is it obviously an outdoor piece?

  6. Hi, Kristy,
I swear I’ve seen a stone fireplace(maybe with mantle) – possibly electric – in your outdoor
