Holiday House Tour 2017

Holiday House Tour 2017 ~ Kristy Wicks
Hello friends!

Welcome to my little holiday house tour where I’ve added special touches of Christmas here and there.. I love making our home feel welcome and inviting for all of our friends and family, especially throughout the holidays. Having just moved into our new home this year I wasn’t sure what approach I wanted to take with my Christmas decor. Should I stick with my traditional look and style of Christmas pasts or attempt something entirely different? The process of moving into a new house around the holiday season as very stressful. We wanted to make sure everything was ready and in place for the best time of the year. The idea of building a home came around when we were recommended by a friend of ours to give it a go. They were able to build their custom dream house and that is what we had always wanted to do. For us, this was the best route to go down and I’m so glad we could make this happen. Without all of this, we wouldn’t have the Christmas we have always dreamt of. I’m so thrilled with the results.

I may as well warn you… Maggie loves the camera. ;)

This year I was so excited to begin decorating. I’m sure it had to do with the fact that I haven’t had the chance to decorate for a couple of years (with our new home and renovation going on, plus we’ve only just got the REAL RocknRoll Movers Los Angeles – The Only Movers That Rock! | WE MOVE LA to get our stuff in we spent last Christmas with my Mom). We were more concerned about getting all our stuff moved in and finding a nearby Las Vegas locksmith that could update our locks. We knew that decorating could wait for when we could put all of our time into it. I’m also excited to start decorating because this is the first year that our daughter, Emma will be living nearby since leaving for college a few years ago. I love having her close and wanted to make the house look extra special this year since I knew she would be dropping by more often.

When I approached my new holiday decorating direction this year I decided to start fresh with a couple of new trees. No green this year… I was going for a flocked tree and a white tree. I also wanted to veer away from the traditional colors and switch my tones to a softer pastel palette of blush, whites and metallics. It was important that everything accent rather than distract from my newly purchased home decor and art, etc. I am so happy I followed my instincts… I love the way everything flows with my small soft, pastel home.

Christmas is the season when my family spends more time indoors watching movies, playing games and simply hanging out. I love everything looking as festive and cozy as possible since we are inside most days and nights. To help makes things glow more I bring lots of lights and trees to every room in the house. My collection of Restoration Hardware twinkle trees help fill the gap. I add them to every empty nook and cranny possible. The result pays off at night. Every room exudes an ambiance that I crave during the longer winter nights. (read more about my RH twinkle trees in my blog post here)

For the first time ever I have two Christmas trees in my home… My new flocked tree in the living room and the narrow white pencil tree in the dining room. I can’t tell you how much I LOVE both of these trees! I found the flocked tree at Lowe’s with Emma just after Thanksgiving and we couldn’t believe our luck. Not only was it the exact size I was looking for but it also had the perfect amount of flocking and staggered branches to place ornaments on. Plus… it was on a major sale. So perfect.. I love how it looks.

All the beautiful wrapping paper is from Homegoods. The colors and designs are perfect for my home!

The new narrow white pencil tree sits in the corner of the dining room. It’s the right accent for this space and I’m wondering how I never thought to have a lit tree in the corner until now. It fills out the space and the lights glow throughout the entire house at night. I think I may have to find something to place in that corner year round I love it that much.

My living room and dining room sit so close to one another I treat them essentially as the same space. I carry the exact same colors and style from one room to the next. Along with my new Christmas trees I have included a similar holiday decor in both spaces of tiny bottle brush trees, faux snow and lots of shiny ornaments. Both rooms, while slightly different, flow seamlessly. The overall look is delicate and elegant.

The top of my living room console includes a little collection of bottle brush trees and glitter houses. I really do love the way everything looks. It reminds me of a little snowy village.

I’m always adding little touches to the lamps. The tiny wreath detail on these is a favorite.

I made sure to stuff the new flocked tree with as many blush, metallic and white ornaments that I could find. Also included is a little cotton with iridescent threads running through to add more of an ethereal look. (To learn more about my flocked tree, click here) It’s amazing how full and sparkly the tree looks as a result.

The dining room sits directly across from the living room and it’s flanked with french doors on both sides. It’s one of my favorite rooms in the house because of the light. I can’t wait until my garden is installed so I can look out and view nothing but flowers and greenery all day long. The space is always full of light. The pink mercury glass trees sitting on the table look so beautiful with the sunshine floating through the room. Everything sparkles and shines.

I always love decorating the kitchen for the holidays. Whether it be a simple wreath hanging on my hutch or a small tree sitting on the counter, I’m always tucking a little something in someplace. I add just a few pieces to keep things uncluttered and I think it makes them stand out even more. In my kitchen this year I placed a couple of pink bottle brush trees to keep with my tree theme. I love the contrast in color and their simplicity.

While my family room is a little empty at the moment, (this space is going through a complete transformation) I decided to bring the bar cart in from the living room to help fill it out a bit and to add a festive flair.

I kept the mantel simple and white with more glitter houses, bottle brush trees and faux snow. (Read more about how I decorated my mantel here) The family room is a hard space to get excited about right now but what saves me is knowing that within the next 2-4 weeks we will have a cozy sectional, a new rug and a coffee table to officially break in. We can’t wait!

I brought a little Christmas into the bedrooms and baths with just a couple of trees and ornaments. I always add a few seasonal elements for guests. Holiday soaps and hand towels are always a given along with a tiny tree of some sort. Everyone seems to appreciate the gesture. :)

Thanks so much for dropping by this holiday season. I had so much fun bringing touches of Christmas to my new home. My mom has taught me that it’s so important to take the time to make our homes feel special and loving for not only others.. but ourselves. I always remember the tiny ways she made us feel throughout each holiday season while I was growing up and I’m so thankful I can pass on those traditions and feelings to my daughter.

  1. Everything is beautiful, Kristy! I love how it all just blends together. Just lovely! I have a question — how do you store everything? I find storage to be tough, I have so many bins! Any tips on storage would be great! :)

  2. Kristy….all I can say is….Wow……your home not only looks stunning, it’s looks very cozy and lived in. Every room not only showcases your talent, but a warmth where you just want to be there. You are a very talented and I always enjoy your posts.

  3. Kristy – your home is absolutely beautiful! I love your eye for color and decor. Your Christmas displays are stunning and I really love the pastels. Thank you so much for sharing…

  4. This is a beautiful tour Kristy! Thank you for sharing! I bought the 3 foot tonsil tree and it is fantastic! On sale and came very fast! Love it! Also just ordered the Stocking Scrolls. They are sold out at Target but Bed Bath and Beyond had a set that you can choose the finish and good price. Amazon Prime has a set of 4 that look like the ones you have also.
These pictures are gorgeous but you always take such pretty pictures and have an eye for composition too! Thanks Kristy! Your posts and stories always make my day?

  5. Absolutely beautiful! So elegant. I can’t seem to find any bottle brush trees as pretty as yours. Where did you find them? Thank you!

  6. Your Christmas home is so lovely and inviting. You did a beautiful job bringing this new color palette to life for Christmas this year. I want to cozy up somewhere in your house and enjoy the holidays. I know how happy you are that your daughter is now close by and can enjoy your beautiful home more often. I have 2 daughters, so I know! Though one lives a 4 hour flight away in Texas with her family. So we visit them a week before Christmas and then drive to our other daughters house for Christmas Day. So, no family seeing our Christmas decor anymore. But they all flock here several times in the summer to enjoy our retirement home by the ocean (Chincoteague, VA.). Cherish those holidays you share with your daughter and husband in your lovely new home. ? Question: Have you ever shown us your new hine’s floor plan? I would love to see it and know how many square feet it is. Love the way it seems to flow together so beautifully.

    1. Thanks so much Anne!I haven’t shown the floor plan before but it’s 1900 sq ft. We removed a wall which opened up the house so much more than it used to be. I love how open everything is now.
I grew up in McLean Va. and we used to go to Chincoteague often. So beautiful! Hugs and Happy Holidays. :)

  7. Absolutely love following you! Your Instagram stories always brings a smile to my face! Your photos are gorgeous here, what camera do you use? :)

    1. Thank you so much Jenna.. so sweet of you! I actually hired a photographer to take these photos so I’m unsure what kind of camera she used… sorry about that.
