Entertaining with friends doesn’t have to be an elaborate affair. :) I often wing it and get together with friends on a whim. The last thing I want to worry about when hosting is whether things are perfect so I do all I can to keep a few basic items on hand to make entertaining simpler. Oftentimes when it’s just the girls coming by I’ll whip out a neutral runner and place it on my island with just a few white plates, napkins, candles and wine. It’s amazing how much elegance a runner can add to a large island. Not only does it ground the space but it keeps things from looking too busy which islands are notorious of.
As to seasonal decor, I rely on whatever I happen to have around my home. Flowers, pumpkins and even asparagus were used here and I never had to leave home to find them. No matter the season… flowers always work and vegetables make such pretty decor.
My friends come over quite often and I enjoy making things look as pretty as possible but without all the fanfare that one assumes must come with hosting. We need to remember that when it really comes down to it people just want to get together for a little laughter and good conversation. The food doesn’t even have to be perfect. ;)
I’ve pulled together a few of my favorite pieces that I always rely on to help make that last minute dining experience less stressful and easier. You will find that all items are neutral based and go with every season and kitchen style. So much simpler don’t you think?
