How Wicks Nest was born…

Couldn’t believe it when I saw this pillow that had ‘our nest’ on it awhile back.

I just knew I had to have it!

Our home was first referred to as ‘Wicks Nest’ 19 years ago when our daughter, Emma was born and we finally became a little family of 3.

I always tried to make each house a home with my husband, Jeff but it really wasn’t until our daughter came home from the hospital after finally beating the infertility and IVF game that ‘Wicks Nest’ was hatched.

It was at that moment when our home became not only more alive but our special place, our haven… our nest.

A few years before my daughter, Emma was born a Morning Dove family began a  yearly nesting habit in a tiny tree outside our kitchen window.  Every year I worried about those babies in each newly built nest.

This tree was so little that every nest was tossed about on windy days and I was certain a baby bird would fall out…  What amazed me was that as messy as each nest was and as loosely attached to the branch it seemed, each nest remained.
I loved that and felt a bond with each nest every spring.

My home, like those nests is our safe retreat where we get away from the busy craziness of this world. Once we became 3 peas in a pod, my journey began to making things as beautiful and cozy as I could within our nest.

I love that it’s our own special place and I have fun making it all about my family.

It may take years to get our home the way we want but in the meantime it’s a place where all our family traditions and new memories are made. I always emphasize to everyone that while our home isn’t perfect… it is ‘our nest’.
