Our Adopted Cavalier Love

Hi everyone,

I’m so excited to finally share our story with you about our new little adopted Cavalier rescue, Maggie.

Many of you may already be familiar with our first Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Cal who passed away two years ago.  I have to say that this had to be one of the hardest moments for our little family.  With Emma being an only child our pets have always become members of our family.  It broke our hearts the day Cal died. Cal was so loving and gentle with everyone I didn’t think I could ever ‘replace” him with another dog.
To be honest, I’m one of those owners who cares so much about their pet (Jeff would say a bit too much, Lol) it’s hard for me to leave on vacation without stressing over who will take care of them.  I’ve never been a fan of kennels so I’ve always had to beg family or friends to babysit. It made getting away so much harder and more of an inconvenience.  I knew if I ever adopted again, it would have to be a special situation.

The Cavalier Rescue USA is a national, foster home based, non-profit organization that is dedicated to finding loving families for Cavaliers who are in need of new homes. The Cavaliers entrusted to them are evaluated for temperament, brought up to date medically, and cared for by their dedicated volunteers until a permanent, loving family is found to adopt them.  When I found out that Maggie was in need of a home I knew that we needed to do something asap.  We have a loving home that needs to be shared.  The minute I saw Maggie’s picture and read her story to Jeff and Emma, I knew we were the right family for her.  All I was told is that Maggie came from a place that could not care for her any longer. When she arrived it was obvious she didn’t know her name and she was hard of hearing.. It was easy to sense that she needed attention.  She loves being inside of our home, cuddling and sleeping on the sofa so much that she runs back inside after all of our walks. I was told she was kept outside for most of the day and in her crate alone every night.

The day we received Maggie was an amazing moment for all of us. Maggie is a 4 year old Blenheim Cavalier who loves everyone she meets.  She readily opened her heart to us and it was a match made in heaven. If you are ever thinking of opening your heart and home to a dog in need please take a look at this amazing organization. To learn more about the incredible Cavalier Rescue USA click here.

Having raised 3 dogs in the last 30 years, I have learned so much about taking care of these special hearts and I’m so thankful to have been given the chance.  Rescuing a little (or big) one from a rescue organization will reward you in more ways than you can count. :)

xo,
Kristy

  1. Kristy, what a wonderful adoption story about Maggie! I am still not sure who is luckiest, you and Jeff or darling Maggie. Thanks so much for promoting adoption of a rescue rather than shopping for a dog. Maggie is the perfect “spokesmodel” for rescue and this can save a lot of lives!
    Thanks,
    Sarah in Castro Valley

  2. Dear Kristy, you are a lady and a ?…and definitely a woman of my ❤️. I too have a huge love for dogs ?. Our home is special to three American Cocker Spaniels. One of those was a rescue to an older fella, named, Samson. Sammie, was going on Eight years old at the time that his family just decided to give him away for free on a classified ad…there is much more to his story. He did not recover quickly from this heart wrenching trauma. I am happy to say that he is doing well now, three years later… i just love seeing Maggie on your stories ??

    1. So happy to hear that your Sammie is doing better now Cristan. I can only imagine how difficult it must have been for he and Maggie to be given up and to try and trust again. I’m so thankful to have Maggie in ur home. She will be adored always and forever. :) Hugs!

  3. Thank you for sharing! It certainly does sound like the perfect match. Maggie looks to be very happy and living the good life, which she deserves! Congratulations to all!

  4. What a wonderful story! YAY another win for Cavalier Rescue USA and, even more importantly, for your family and Maggie. What a lucky girl she is. Cavalier’s have my heart (you know, aside from that section dedicated to my wife and my daughter) and I am 100% in favor of rescue. I have two rescued CKCS’s myself and I blog about them – what it’s like introducing them to the world, puppy mills, and rescue, health, etc. and I love to share other people’s stories as well.
May I share yours with my blog readers?

    1. How sweet of you Molly! Thanks so much. Of course. We are honored to have Maggie and feel so happy sharing her story. Hugs and thanks again! xx

  5. Kristy, I have followed you in Instagram for years but never commented here! I just wanted to say I am happy for your family and Maggie. :) I always loved your posts with Cal and cried when he passed away (I felt your pain- we said goodbye to 3 in a 6 year period- it was awful). My hubby and I don’t have children (and won’t be) so our pets are absolutely family. We have cats and are lucky to have a wonderful friend/neighbor network who care for them like their own when we vacation. Your post was so sweet- congratulations on your precious addition! :)

    1. Thanks you sooooo much Kristin! You are so sweet to comment and care about sweet Cal and Maggie. We love Maggie and can’t imagine not having her in our new home. She brings us so much love. Hugs and thank you again! xx

  6. Dearest Kristy, I just have to say to how thrilled I am that you adopted Maggie and that you didn’t get a specially bred dog that just encourages the wicked puppy farms. I can see Maggie brings so you so much joy like my darling Dido does for me. Dogs mean the world to me and I couldn’t live without one. Please give a big smooch to Maggie from Dido ????

    1. You are so sweet Debby! What a wonderful message. Maggie is such an angel I can’t believe how lucky we are. :) You are always so positive and giving to everyone… Thank you so much for that! Hugs back to you and Dido! xx

P.S Jeff inspires me to eat healthy too…. Love the cooking segments lol :-)

    1. Hi Vicki,
Thank you for commenting :) So sweet of you to say that.. what a sweetheart. Lucy is such a cute name. I miss Cal all the time but we are so happy to have sweet Maggie. Thank you so much for saying that! I love sharing what I find from Nordie’s & more :) (I live in that store I think..)

Aww I’ll tell Jeff you said that! xx

  8. What a beautiful story. Made me cry just knowing what it is to be a dog mom to a Cavalier. I never knew you had a precious precious Cavalier. You are absolutely a lovely person and it takes special souls to care and own this breed. Wishing you, Jeff, Emma and Maggie a very wonderful Christmas. You are not only have a wonderful soul but you are beautiful inside and out. 🐶❤️

  9. I love this story! Thank you for sharing it and the rescue organization. Our two dogs are both rescues and our beloved Labradoodle that passed in 2018, Sailor, was a rescue too. I so love seeing Maggie on your stories.

  10. Thank you so much for sharing you story about Maggie and Cal. I love my Cavaliers and dread the day I have to say goodbye. Just typing this bring tears. So I’ll live them and spoil them to the moon and back. They are my life. My husband was killed two years after we were married and I’ve never remarried so these are my babies. Merry Christmas
