2018 Goals

2018 Goals ~ Kristy Wicks
It’s the end of the year.. and all I keep thinking about is the fact that January is 3 days away. On one hand, I’m having a heart attack because I have so many goals I want to reach this next year, but on the other hand I’m excited about the challenge and I get rejuvenated every January 1st.

I don’t think there is a January that has gone by that I have not been excited about starting over with a clean slate. This year, I have so many goals I want to tackle…but I’m going to concentrate on 10 to make things realistic and obtainable for myself –  5 personal and 5 business related.

Personal Goals

Cut the sugar. In case you haven’t heard.. I live for sugar. While I know this is wrong, I still crave it at the movies, who am I kidding… every single night. In my beautiful china cabinet, I have a huge bowl of candy. They are all movie-sized boxes… you can buy them at Target for $1 a piece – so sad that I know this. I’ve decided I’m going to go cold-turkey because I don’t think there is a way I can wean myself off. I think I even have to cut back on the natural sugars (from fruit, etc) just to get my body adjusted and then I will slowly introduce more of that back into my diet. Along with the sugar, I’m planning on cutting the bad carbs as well. I’ll go into more detail on that in a later post.

Get 7 hours of sleep per night.
I have always had a hard time going to sleep at night. I realize that sleep is extremely important.. not only for my mental state, but physically as well.  To help with this I’m planning on cutting caffeine and soda past 3pm, and I’m going to put down the phone at a reasonable time so that I can read for a bit before going to sleep. Reading (not on the computer or phone) always helps me fall asleep and I miss it. Having a job that is technology-driven has changed my life in so many ways and while it’s great on one hand, it’s not working for my sleep cycle.

Drink more water.
My doctor tells me that I am supposed to drink 8 glasses of 8oz of water a day. I don’t know why I have fallen into this bad habit of not drinking enough water every day but I know that I’m not getting nearly enough because I’m always thirsty. I think it’s because I’m so busy running around all the time, or I’m working on my computer and phone and I forget to make myself take that extra second to hydrate. I used to drink tons of water so I’m getting back to that ASAP. Water increases energy and relieves fatigue. It flushes out toxins, improves skin complexion and is a natural headache remedy. Sooo many great thing attributed to staying hydrated.

Pamper myself more. I do so much for others that I never take time for myself.. I would love to have a massage. Because I am in charge of my own business, I find I feel guilty if I take a break from work. There are times when I would love to take a long bath.. I would also love to read more. Maybe in the bath. ;)  When Jeff and I went to Hawaii, it was the first time I have actually read a book cover to cover in ages. I love reading and I miss it. I used to get my nails done once a month, and I haven’t gotten them done in over 4 months.. what’s up with that? Spending a little ‘me’ time helps me recoup, feel happier and be a much more productive person as a result.

Be more organized in all aspects. I’m not sure if it’s the fact that we renovated our home this past year, or if it’s because my work has taken off more.. but I am having a harder time than I have ever had staying organized in almost all aspects. Whether it’s keeping my home clean, keeping with a schedule for work and personal time, or taking on a whole landscaping project, there always seems to be something going on that I need to tend to. 2018 is a time to buckle down and schedule every little thing on a calendar and hold to it. I’ll be talking more about this in detail in the future.

Business Goals

Blog 3-5x a week.

I’ve spoken about this before, but it’s my goal to blog more often. I’ve always held ‘blogging’ at a extremely high standard.. to the point where I don’t even post sometimes because I don’t feel that what I want to say is worthy of a blog post. How ridiculous is that? There are so many ideas and topics that I would love to share and I would like to do this in a more casual and relaxed format. 2018 will be different.

Share a variety of posts.

In 2018, plan to see more DIY, cooking/baking, lifestyle, beauty, and fashion posts.. these are all things that I care about and plan to delve into 100%. I never want to be put in a box. I love interior design but that’s not all of who I am.

Expand my brand to other social media outlets.

I really admire other influencers & content creators who not only blog and are on Instagram, but also have followings on YouTube and produce podcasts as well. Look for something new and exciting from me this year on a whole new level!

Double the amount of brands I worked with in 2017. (or more)

2017 has been an amazing year for my brand so far, and I’ve had such an incredible amount of growth. So thankful to having my daughter Emma join the team- now I’m capable of handling so much more than ever before. (Thanks Emma!)

Respond to the massive amount of e-mails in a more timely manner.

Sometimes I find myself not wanting to open my e-mails because it is so overwhelming. This year I’m going to set up a time during the day where I look at e-mails and respond to them so that I can stay organized.

  1. Kristy, first of all- I am copying your top 5 personal goals ? alllll great and alll need accomplished on my end! I love your business goals too, and if I can accomplish 1/4 of those, I’ll be ecstatic ? Happy New Year ?

    1. Me too Martha! These are my goals and I hope to obtain all but you know how hard it can be… Let’s make a pact to try and do all we can to accomplish them. I know we can do it! Hugs! xx

  2. I am writing a book in 2018. So many people through the years have told me “you should write a book” about all my travels and funny adventures. I don’t know that my book will ever be published but I plan to write it anyway.
Also I am going to something very difficult. I’ve had a friend for 35+ years and now it is time to let her go. She is never interested in my life at all. It’s always about HER. I have been very ill through the years…..breast cancer, stomach surgery, hysterectomy, severe anemia….and she never asks how I am feeling. Last February on her birthday I was in the hospital for a blood transfusion and 2 iron infusions. I was so sick. And she got upset with me for not wishing her a happy birthday. She still brings it up! I’m just too old to put up with her BS any longer.
I wish you, Jeff, Emma and Zack great success in 2018. Always, Renee ?

    1. Sooo frustrating Renee. I am so sorry you have been going through all of this with someone you should be able to call a good friend. I think you are doing the right thing. As Oprah says, “Surround yourself with people who feed you in life”. We have enough difficulties than to spend time with those who drain us… who don’t really care.
Hugs and congratulations for standing tall. You are so strong! Look at everything you have been through all ready… xx

  3. Thanks for sharing your goals! You have inspired me to push forward and set some myself personal and work related. For the past few years I’ve wanted to start a blog but always find an excuse to put it off maybe 2018 will be my year to push forward. . Happy New Year to You!

    1. Thanks Teresa… I completely get it. I feel like you do so much of the time but think I’m really ready to tackle my goals this year. I think you should go for it! How exciting! Hugs and good luck. Let me know how your blog is going once you get thing up and running… xx

  4. I think you’re going to do well with your blogging goals, kristy! You’ve got such great style and a warm personality. Do a podcast for sure!!!!

  5. Setting my 2018 goals as well. Thank you so much for the reminder to keep it realistic or you can/will get discouraged. 10 is totally doable!

  6. Great personal goals! I think it is important to continually strive to improve ourselves.
I love your Cavalier! They are the sweetest & most loving dogs.

  7. I love watching you in story especially (you such a natural) – love your goals both personal and business and I’m positive you will surpass them too! It’s good to put them out there so it can keep you focused- keep working hard and know you are appreciated!!

    1. Thanks so much Melody! You are the sweetest… I figure I may as well be myself in stories since everyone will learn who I am over time anyhow. ;) Here’s to setting goals and sticking with them! Hugs! xx

  8. These are awesome goals, and I feel like you’ve already really stepped up your blogging game in recent months! You hold yourself to a very high standard— I think you’re more organized than anyone I know! Also— I highly recommend doterra essential oils— particularly the Serenity blend— to help you sleep!!

  9. Hi Kristy

Love reading your posts and following your Instagram today’s post was just the motivation I needed to finally set some goals for myself and business. I feel like I am always “flying by the seat of my pants!” Thanks for the inspiration.

As for your sugar you will be amazed at how well you feel when you cut back. I recently had an intestinal virus (nothing serious) and have been on a very restricted diet for 2 weeks I have so much energy, the end of day diggings is gone and I am sleeping better ( Oreos were my go to breakfast!). My unintentional cleanse was actually a gift and I am going to keep the sugars to a minimum going forward!

All the best to you in 2018 – you are such an inspiration and I look forward seeing your business grow!

    1. Hi Pam, You are so right! So many great things about cutting sugar… I’ve done this before on numerous occasions but now I’m really in need of some discipline. Thanks for the motivation! Happy New Year! xx

  10. Hi Kristy! I love your goals, and that you split them between personal and business. You ve inspired me to make my list too!
I know that one thing that helps is to keep your list of goals visible, on your planner every day, and, say, on your makeup mirror or bathroom mirror!
To cut sugar increase your protein and salt. Every time you crave sugar eat more protein, it works! Also, Costco sells a GREAT brand of chocolate protein shakes that have only 5 grams of carbs and 30 of protein . You ‘ll love them! About $1 each and they don’t even taste “healthy,” they taste like a treat!
Best of luck to you. I soooo look forward to your 2018 posts, stories and blogs, and I love the links to products. I buy stuff that way all the time from your page!
    Take care! Be healthy!
    Dana

    1. Thanks so much Dana and thank you for all the tips about the protein. I’ll definitely have to check out the Costco chocolate protein shake. I’m there all the time.. ;) Good luck with your goals too.. I’ll have to post mine somewhere so that I can see them every day. Great idea! Happy New Year! xx

  11. Fabulous goals!! As a mama to 2 adorable little girls I want to start living simpler in every asps of life. From the ingredients in our foods to the way I schedule our days – simpler sounds and feels lighter. I want to set the tone for our family in the most positive of ways, and I think decluttering our lives and simplifying routines and meals and all the things in between will help this Mama to be a better everything! Cheers to all of our successes! Xo

    1. Your daughters will thank you as they get older Blair. My mom is queen of decluttering and I love that. It’s taught me so much about how to lead a more cleaner and simpler life. Simple is a good thing as they say… Hugs and Happy New Year! xx

  12. Kristy, such awesome goals; I think we may be twins. I just got my nails done for the first time in 4 months too haha! And, I am right there with you on the business goals. Let’s kick butt in 2018- here’s to a fantastic year ahead!! Xoxo
